Rhea takes wordplay to the wall with cheerful selection of mixed-media hand-sculpted, slightly kinetic words chosen to evoke nostalgia, humor and appreciation for an abundant, yet seemingly diminishing collective vocabulary. Curious birds give tribute to communications that succeed beyon and inspite of words.
Rhea has exhibited in galleries and juried shows nationally. Her art has been featured in many international publications including the 2010 Lark Book - 500 Cabinets and the 2008 500 Chairs: Celebrating Traditional and Innovative Designs. All of her collected works are signed and numbered.
Catherine Earle was born and raised in Southern France. She grew up surrounded by the lights and colors of the province. At the age of sixteen she was accepted at the Beaux Art, National Art School of France, being the youngest student enrolled. The Beaux Art was teaching the School of Dushamp, which stressed individual expression toward the creation of art. She then worked as a makeup artist for many years, with an emphasis on Stage, Opera and Ballet. She has traveled in Asia and South Pacific, deeply curious about different cultures. Considering herself a Universal citizen, she lives in North Idaho, with her two daughters
Her technique is called wet on wet. She soaks the paper with water and begins painting with a wet brush. The page, made of soft white cotton, feels pure, full of water, unknown, empty. As the first color is laid down a moving story with unlimited colors and forms unfolds. When she starts painting with watercolor, her whole palette changes. The transparency of the water-based medium allows her to experience colors in a different way. She watches the pigments blend together, embracing one another as they float or glaze. She sees new possibilities in her creative process. As she paints abstract forms emerge, letting her play with them. Catherine believes in the energetic power of colors, and is pleased to let the viewers experience the finished painting in their own time, own way, allowing them, in their turn, to bring in their own and personal creative imagination.
